DESCRIPTION:One of the major strategic problems that the modern society wi
ll constantly face is the procurement and distribution of good quality of
energy. The consumption of energy has been increasing incessantly due to i
ndustrial requirements as well as improvement of living standards all over
the world. Properly developed power electronics technology is the answer
to an efficient use of more flexible good quality\, and unpolluted electri
c energy. Relevant issues related to modeling\, control\, simulation\, ele
ctromagnetic high integration systems and the development of hardware for
power electronics circuits aimed at reducing losses in the multiple conver
sion stages\, and delivering acceptable power quality is the key research
area. The strategic vision of the research programme will be on\, one hand
\, focused on the fundamental research on novel converter topologies\, new
high density packaging techniques\, new modeling techniques\, new control
strategies of these converters\, and on the other\, on the development of
industrial technologies in three key sectors:\n\n# Electrical networks in
terms of energy efficiency and power quality supply\;\n# Aerospace and te
lecommunications systems in terms of power supplies\; and\n# Mass transit
industry\, with zero emission using electric traction system.\n
