DESCRIPTION:FRETTTING FATIGUE: Damage due to fretting fatigue is a major c
oncern in gas turbine engines. We have focused on the development of crack
initiation approach which could be utilized to predict/estimate the servi
ce life of components subjected to fretting fatigue. \n\nBONDED PATCH REP
AIR: Cracking is a common failure mode in structural components. Their eff
icient and reliable repair before their complete failure is needed. This r
esearch focused on the characterization of adhesively bonded composite pat
ch to repair a cracked structural component along with development of fini
te element based simple method to predict the fatigue life.\n\nCERAMICS MA
TRIX COMPOSITES: This research focused on characterization of fatigue life
of ceramics matrix composites under combustion and related environments a
t elevated temperature (700 ~ 1200 deg C). These materials are needed for
several elevated temperature applications.\n\nNANOCOMPOSITES: This part of
presentation will present our research effort on characterization of nano
-composites using nano-indentation and atomic force microscopy. \n
