DESCRIPTION:*Abstract:* In this workshop we will explore the mathematics o
 f Celtic knots.  We will learn how the dimensions of simple knots determin
 e the number of strands from which the knots are formed\, as well as the n
 umber of times the strands cross each other.  We will make predictions abo
 ut the nature of these mathematical relationships and test them out.  Then
  we will examine more complex knots and investigate the patterns which det
 ermine their construction and how their symmetry is related to these patte
 rns.\n\n*About the speaker:* Dr Jenny Gage was a mathematics teacher for s
 ome 15 years before joining the MMP as the academic coordinator for the Mo
 tivate videoconferencing project.  She is passionate about providing stude
 nts and teachers personal\, hands-on mathematical experiences\, and about 
 facilitating maths opportunities beyond the confines of a syllabus.  Recen
 tly\, she has worked with teachers and students in South Africa and Pakist
 an\, both in person and remotely.  Developing these and other internationa
 l links is an important focus of Jenny’s work with the MMP.\n\n*Audience
