DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, Esther explores a number of sites where biodive
rsity expertise is produced. These will include examples in the Netherland
s and draw on her experiences as an expert and lead author for the Intergo
vernmental Platform for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES). Parti
cular focus will be on two interrelated logics that are prominent in biodi
versity expertise: that of policy relevance and that of assessment. Esther
’s argument is that these two logics together prioritise model projectio
ns over other forms of expertise. The lecture concludes by discussing the
scope for doing things differently and breaking through dominant logics.\n
