SUMMARY:Spatial vision in the periphery - Professor Roger Anderson\, UCL I

DESCRIPTION:Historically\, the large majority of visual research has conce
ntrated on foveal vision. Peripheral vision has received much less attenti
on even though it occupies the major part of our field of vision. Peripher
al visual performance does not just represent a scaled down version of the
fovea\; it is limited by different factors and performance is very task d
ependent. In addition\, there may be pathways in the periphery that are no
t present in the fovea.\nThis talk will review some of the factors\, both
neural and optical\, that limit different tasks in the periphery\, and how
it differs both qualitatively as well as quantitatively from foveal visio
 n.
