DESCRIPTION:I will begin by discussing the changing relations between phys
 ics and\nphilosophy from about 1700 till the present. Then I will briefly 
 state and\ndefend the doctrine called scientific realism: the optimistic c
 laim that\nscience achieves objective knowledge\, i.e. the claims made by 
 our mature\nscientific theories are true. Then I will consider primordial 
 cosmology\, in\nparticular inflation. How well does scientific realism far
 e\, concerning\nclaims about such an utterly inaccessible era?\n
