DESCRIPTION:DNA is an ideal nanoscale building material: programmed base p
airing facilitates self-assembly of DNA strands into complex 3D structures
. The DNA sequence allows for control of their geometry and positioning of
chemical modifications with angstrom precision. This has opened new avenu
es in X-ray crystallography\, drug delivery\, and mimicking the function o
f natural enzymes and proteins\, paving the way to patient-specific therap
eutics.\n\n• Dr Ryan Brady and Dr Alexander Ohmann will introduce the fi
eld of DNA nanotechnology\, describe the approaches to produce functional
nanoscale devices from DNA and present results on creating DNA-built mimic
s of ion channel proteins and lipid-flipping enzymes.
