DESCRIPTION:Super-resolution microscopy describes a set of relatively rece
nt microscopy techniques which allows to circumvent the optical resolution
limit of traditional fluorescence imaging. Various implementations are av
 ailable like STED\, PALM/STORM\, SIM\, Photon reassignment\, using differe
nt principles to achieve this. Other imaging parameters like imaging depth
\, temporal resolution or multi-color imaging are affected to varying degr
ees depending on the particular technique. \nDuring this presentation I wi
ll give an overview over current state-of-the-art super-resolution microsc
opy techniques available for the expert and non-expert researchers for per
forming high-resolution microscopy\, with an emphasis on STED microscopy.
I will discuss advantages of a number of methods and highlight application
s which can benefit from super-resolution techniques. Practical considerat
ions for using the available STED microscope in the department of Genetics
  will also be included.\n\n
