DESCRIPTION:FlyMine (www.flymine.org) is an integrated database of genomic
s and proteomics data for Drosophila and other insects. It includes a wid
e range of data\, made available via a flexible web interface. Users can
run pre-defined 'template' queries\, design their own queries and operate
on lists of data.\n\nInterMine (www.intermine.org) is software developed t
o enable FlyMine and is now being used in other projects to create similar
databases.\n\nRelational databases provide enormous power for programmers
to store and query large volumes of data. Web access to databases for us
e by biologists is often limited to performing lookups for identifiers or
keywords and displaying reports. This talk will introduce the power of da
tabases for data manipulation and show how FlyMine/InterMine attempts to e
nable non-programmers to benefit from this power.\n
