DESCRIPTION:E. T. Curran\, Scramjet Engines: The First Forty Years\, "Jour
nal of Propulsion and Power 17\, 1138 (2001)":http://www.aiaa.org/content.
cfm?pageid=406&gTable=japaperimport&gID=5875\n\nA general review of the em
ergence and maturing of supersonic combustion ramjet (scramjet) engine tec
hnologies over the last 40 years is presented. The review is given in term
s of the efforts completed or proceeding in the United States\, Russia\, F
 rance\, Germany\, Japan\, Australia\, and other countries. A brief account
of the challenges of scramjet combustor development is given\, and attent
ion is directed toward other source references for more detailed accounts
of technology evolution. Two emerging scramjet applications are identi ed
\, namely\, hydrogen-fueled high-speed engines for access to space and hyd
rocarbon-fueled engines for hypersonic air-launched missiles.
