DESCRIPTION:In the Regge limit string-string interactions and string-brane
\ninteractions\ncan be neatly described by a simple operator\, the eikonal
operator.\nAfter\nreviewing the derivation of this result\, I will discus
s how we can use\nit to\nlearn something about curved spacetimes in string
theory and the form of\nthe\ninteractions between the massive\, higher-sp
in states of the string\nspectrum.\nMore precisely\, I will show how the d
ynamics of a string in the curved\nspacetime\nof an extremal p-brane is en
coded in the eikonal operator for\nstring-brane\nscattering in flat spacet
ime. I will also describe in some detail the\ninelastic\ntransitions cause
d by the action of the tidal forces on the string.\n
