DESCRIPTION:Buildings can be ventilated using energy efficient methods suc
h a natural ventilation. To maintain expected comfort levels and remove co
ntaminants\, we need to be able to predict and control the flows inside na
turally ventilated buildings. One popular method for naturally ventilating
a room is through windows at opposite sides of a room and at the same hei
ght\, known as cross-ventilation. We examine the effect of an indoor-outdo
or temperature difference on a cross-ventilated room. The results of labor
atory experiments using a water flume and a model room at 1/10th scale wil
l be presented and compared to theory.
