DESCRIPTION:After the historic first detection of gravitational waves by t
he LIGO and Virgo collaborations in 2015\, the last few years have seen a
sequence of detections announced\, including the first gravitational wave-
multi-messenger observation of merging neutron stars. 2019 should see the
start of the third observing run of the LIGO gravitational wave detectors
 – expected to be the longest duration observing run to date. Professor R
owan\, University of Glasgow\, will discuss the status of observations\, p
lans for the global network of advanced gravitational wave detectors and w
hat the future of the field might look like.
