DESCRIPTION:There is no simple answer to this question\, since Marx's view
s changed over time. But broadly it is possible to distinguish three disti
nct phases in Marx's picture\, both of what capitalism was and how it migh
t end between the 1840s and the 1870s. These\, however\, have been obscure
d by the well known 'marxist' answer provided by Engels in the Anti-Duhrin
g in the 1880s\, and later justified by a fallacious re-reading of the man
uscripts for vols 2 & 3 of Capital.
