DESCRIPTION:Thanks to recent data\, much has been learned from the CMB at
the epoch of recombination. CMB studies are now focussed on two new main
goals: using the CMB as a backlight to learn about the formation of struct
ures at more recent times\; and cleaning out these lower-redshift effects
to look for key remaining signals of interest from the recombination epoch
. I will discuss current efforts with the ACTPol survey as well as what w
ill be possible with Simons Observatory and CMB-S4 with a focus on the eff
ect of gravitational lensing. I will finish by discussing theoretical wor
k aimed at some related signals of interest which will be observable with
 the next generation of surveys.
