DESCRIPTION:This presentation provides a broad overview of recent ocean mo
delling initiatives in New Zealand\, based on NEMO. These projects include
high resolution nested configurations for the Ross Sea region as well as
bio-geochemistry. The nested projects are predominately used to improve An
tarctic bottom water outflow and to characterize the 3-dimensional structu
re/variability of the Ross Gyre and to track toothfish larvae. Bio-geochem
istry applications target the longterm changes in the Ross Sea Marine Prot
ected Area and Southern Ocean upwelling. Results of marine heatwaves in th
e Tasman Sea are being presented and how they are linked to heat transport
of East Australian Current and Tasman Sea.
