DESCRIPTION:Hyperplasticity is an approach to plasticity theory that is ba
sed on a thermodynamic approach\, specifically developed to address consti
tutive modelling problems in geomechanics. The work has its origins in the
work of Ziegler\, and was initially developed by Houlsby when he was a Ph
D student in Cambridge. It has since been expressed in a more consistent a
nd rigorous mathematical framework\, with important contributions by Prof.
Alexander Puzrin (ETH Zurich) and the late Prof. Ian Collins (Auckland).
\n\nProf. Houlsby will introducing the main concepts of the theory and giv
e some simple examples of its application. The seminar is aimed at researc
hers with an interest in developing constitutive models for geotechnical a
nd other materials. It will particularly appeal to those with an interest
in the more mathematical aspects of the subject.
