DESCRIPTION:I will discuss results from the largest Herschel survey of the
\nextragalactic sky. I will\nshow that the discovery of a simple technique
for discovering very large\nnumbers of\nhigh-redshift lensed systems has
great potential for\nmeasuring cosmological parameters\, testing halo mass
functions and \ninvestigating star formation and the interstellar medium
in galaxies in the\nprocess of formation - and I will show some results f
rom our ALMA programmes\nto do some of these things. I will then show that
a submm survey of the\nnearby\nuniverse reveals a very different galaxysc
ape than\ntraditional optical survey\, showing for example that the 'red s
equence' and\n'blue cloud' are the result of selection effects and that ga
laxy evolution\nis much\ngentler process than the drastic\nquenching proce
ss that is an integral part of the optical view of galaxies.\nFinally\, I
will briefly describe two other surveys\, one of the very early\nUniverse\
nthat we are about to start with the Large Millimetre Telescope and one\no
f the Andromeda\, which is the first submm survey of our nearest big\nneig
hbour\nand which is currently underway at the JCMT.\n
