DESCRIPTION:What does it take to support world-leading interdisciplinary r
 esearch in the Polar Regions? Simon Garrod\, Director of Operations at the
  British Antarctic Survey (BAS)\, will give an overview of the complexitie
 s\, challenges\, frustrations and rewards of managing Polar Operations.\n\
 nBAS operates three research stations in the Antarctic\, two on sub Antarc
 tic South Georgia and one in the Arctic. Research platforms include two ic
 e-strengthened Royal Research Ships\, five specially adapted aircraft and 
 various off-the-shelf and specialised vehicles.\n\nOver the last 25 years 
 Simon has worked for a number of different organisations in the Antarctic 
 and Arctic covering a variety of roles.\n
