DESCRIPTION:The classification of simple Lie algebras over the complex num
bers and even the real numbers is both well-understood and simple to state
. The modular case\, i.e.\, when the characteristic of the underlying fiel
d is positive\, however\, is much more complicated. Recently\, work by Pre
met and Strade completed the classification for p > 3. I will talk about t
he classification and about my work in studying one of the families of sim
ple Lie algebras that appear in it: the non-graded Hamiltonian-type Lie al
 gebra H = H(2\; (1\,1)\; Phi(1)). I will explain what induced representati
ons and maximal vectors are in this context\, and talk about how I intend
to use this technical tool to find all the simple restricted modules for H
  and their composition factors.
