DESCRIPTION:This talk will give a self-contained introduction to the econo
 mics of infectious diseases. This is a growing field of interdisciplinary 
 study which applies ideas from economics\, mathematical optimisation and g
 ame theory to the study and management of infectious diseases. The talk wi
 ll first introduce the classical epidemiological models studied in public 
 health and biology and then show how ideas from economics can be used in c
 onjunction with the classical models to inform public health policies.
