DESCRIPTION:In the first randomized trial in 40 years showing police decis
 ions causing a reduction in repeat domestic abuse\, the Institute of Crimi
 nology recently published an evaluation of the Hampshire CARA project for 
 first offenders. The speakers explain what they found in the context of pr
 evious research\, discussing the qualitative observations of offender work
 shops that help explain the quantitative results. They also review the pol
 icy developments in the first year since the experiment was published.\n\n
