DESCRIPTION:Discrete time crystals is the (contentious) name given to many
-body systems displaying long-time dynamics that is sub-harmonic with resp
ect to a driving frequency. While these were first discussed in closed qua
ntum systems a few years ago\, recent work (partly motivated by experiment
 s) has focussed on including non-unitary effects such as due to an externa
l environment ("dissipation"). In this talk I will describe one of the uni
tary models\, then discuss a general framework for subharmonic oscillation
s stabilised by dissipative dynamics. The unitary and non-unitary phenome
 na are conceptually distinct.
