DESCRIPTION:Most pieces of apparatus used by ancient Greek musical theoris
 ts to illustrate and sometimes to test their hypotheses were very simple\,
  but one of them\, described in considerable detail by the great scientist
  Ptolemy in the 2nd century AD\, is much more complex and interesting.  In
  his talk Professor Barker will present and discuss his home-made reconstr
 uction of this unusual instrument\, with practical demonstrations of what 
 it can (and cannot) do.\n\nThis talk is presented by the Whipple Museum's 
 Science of Musical Sound Project and is open to all.
