DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to host Professor Ann Copestake\, Head of the
Department of Computer Science and Technology here in Cambridge. Ann\, wh
o specialises in Natural Language Processing (NLP)\, will be giving a talk
on the intersection between language and artificial intelligence. \n\nAnn
writes: “Some of the earliest usable AI systems involved NLP - there w
ere commercial machine translation systems and natural language interfaces
to databases over forty years ago. But NLP is very far from solved\, eve
n using the immensely powerful neural network approaches that have become
so popular in the last few years. I will start by talking about the state
-of-the-art and describing some of the properties of language that make wo
rking in NLP so challenging. I will then go on to outline some of the wor
k we have been doing in Cambridge on linguistically-informed neural approa
ches.” This talk is sure to be fascinating for anyone interested in arti
 ficial intelligence and linguistics!\n\nMembers: Free | Non-members: £3\n
