DESCRIPTION:Recent approaches suggest buildings are not static objects but
always on the move\, continuously modified and transformed through ongoin
g inhabitation. This raises important questions for educational research.\
n\nThis seminar will discuss methodological concepts that might help us gr
apple with the questions raised by an understanding of educational space a
s a ‘continuous mode of becoming’\, with four speakers presenting ongo
ing research to get the conversation started:\n\n*Eva Zepp* (Faculty of Cu
lture & Communication\, Zeppelin University) \nEva’s research seeks to e
xamine to what extent the increased awareness of participatory processes i
n school architecture is shaped or even generated by visual staging strate
gies. She will take us on the walking interviews she conducted\, discuss t
he methodology and initial findings.\n\n*Dominic Cullinan* (SCABAL Archite
cts\, London)\nDominic is a practicing Architect and will discuss SCABAL
’s recent research and work with a secondary school in London.\n\n*Tom B
ellfield* (Faculty of Education\, Cambridge University)\nTom’s research
investigates the educational potential of spatial design practice as a mea
ns to negotiate place within primary and secondary schools. He will discus
s research undertaken with the University of\nCambridge Primary School.\n\
 n*Karolina Szynalska* (Faculty of Education\, Cambridge University)\nKarol
ina’s research explores the relationship between design and pedagogical
practice. She will discuss her user of a bespoke tablet application to exp
lore the relationship between pupils’ engagement in learning and spatial
affordances in four English secondary schools.
