DESCRIPTION:Abstract:\nLow Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) technologies\,
such as LoRa/LoRaWAN\,\nSigfox or NB-IoT are experiencing high momentum. I
nternet connectivity\nsupport appears as a promising next step in the evol
ution of LPWAN.\nHowever\, the (sometimes extraordinarily) limited communi
 cation\ncapabilities of LPWAN technologies challenge IPv6 support\, even w
hen\nconsidering previous efforts to provide IPv6 for IoT environments\, s
uch as\n6LoWPAN or 6Lo. The talk will motivate and present the functionali
ty that\nis being standardized by the IETF LPWAN Working Group in order to
enable\nIPv6 over LPWAN technologies\, along with a number of related ope
n research\nand standardization issues.\n\nBio:\nCarles Gomez is an Associ
ate Professor at Universitat Politècnica de\nCatalunya (UPC)\, Spain. He
is coauthor of numerous technical contributions\npublished in journals\, c
onferences\, books and IETF standards. His research\ninterests focus prima
rily on the IoT. He has also worked on mesh and\nad-hoc networks. He has b
een an active contributor to IP-based IoT\nstandardization\nin the IETF 6L
 oWPAN\, 6Lo\, CoRE\, LWIG and LPWAN working groups\, and is also\na chair
of the IETF 6Lo working group. He is academic director and founder\n(joint
ly with Prof. Josep Paradells) of the Master's degree on IoT at UPC\nSchoo
 l. He is an editorial board member of JAISE\, Sensors\, and WCMC\njournals
. He is currently a visiting scholar at the Computer Laboratory of\nthe Un
iversity of Cambridge\, under the supervision of Prof. Jon Crowcroft.
