DESCRIPTION:*About the Speaker*\n\nRoger Dale is Professor of Education.  
 Until 2002\, he was Professor of Education at the University of Auckland. 
  Prior to moving to Auckland\, he had been involved in producing courses i
 n sociology of education and education policy at the Open University for a
 lmost 20 years.\n\nWhilst at Auckland he co-led a major research study int
 o the responses to globalisation of four education systems - Alberta (Cana
 da)\, New Zealand\, Scotland and Singapore.  One strand of investigation w
 as the role of regional organisations (EU\, NAFTA and APEC) in national re
 sponses to globalisation.\n\nThis led to a major interest in the EU and ed
 ucation policy\, which is now the main focus of his work\, complementing a
 nd extending qualitatively his earlier work on the state and education pol
 icy.  It led to him becoming Academic Coordinator of the EU Erasmus Themat
 ic Network\, GENIE (Globalisation and Europeanisation in Education) which 
 was based in the GES.\n\nRefreshments from 17.30 onward\, talk to start at
