DESCRIPTION:Particles derived from lignins and tannic acids as well as nan
o-polysaccharides are renewable and sustainable answers to some of the dem
ands of the future bio-economy. They have been at the center of our intere
st in efforts to reveal their remarkable opportunities\, especially for th
e formulation of multi-phase systems\, including emulsions and foams. Vari
ous options for deployment of related\, emerging nano- and micro structure
s are anticipated considering their morphogenesis\, interfacial activity a
nd their ability to network and self-assemble in aqueous suspension\, espe
cially applicable to nanocelluloses and nanochitins. The combination with
surfactants and surface functionalization expands further the possibilitie
 s\, for example\, in converting emulsions into high order\, 3D structures\
, stimuli-responsive and bioactive materials. In these and other applicati
ons\, we consider cost drivers and scalability\, both of which are quite p
romising. Our recent research in these areas will be summarized\, providi
ng some leading examples of the potential of such fascinating bio-based ma
 terials.
