DESCRIPTION:Photosynthetic microorganisms (both prokaryotes\, such as cyan
obacteria\, and eukaryotes) typically show exoelectrogenic activity\, that
is to say they generate small amounts of extracellular current\, which is
stimulated by illumination. Bioelectrochemical devices generating power i
n this way are referred to as 'biophotovoltaic' systems. \n\nI shall disc
uss work on the biological basis of exoelectrogenic activity and the possi
bility of using biophotovoltaic systems to power small electrical devices.
