DESCRIPTION:Most stars occur in binary systems\, and this may have a cruci
al effect on the intrinsic and observed properties of planets. Binarity ma
y suppress planet formation\, modify the orbits of planets that do get dra
gged into existence\, and confound our attempts to measure their physical
properties. I present a suite of high-resolution imaging studies of the ho
st stars of transiting planets to demonstrate and explore these points. Co
nversely\, stellar multiplicity may open new ways of understanding planeta
ry systems. I present the discovery of a white dwarf and a low-mass eclips
ing binary\, both bound to planetary systems discovered by the SuperWASP s
 urvey.\n
