DESCRIPTION:I will talk about the new muon g-2 experiment at Fermilab\, E9
89\, which is currently in the second year of physics data taking with the
aim of measuring the magnetic dipole moment of the muon to a precision of
140ppb\, a factor of 4 better than the previous experiment conducted at B
rookhaven (E821). The previous measurement\, at 540ppb accuracy\, was disc
repant from the Standard Model prediction at the level of about 3.5 sigma.
I will discuss the history of the measurement\, the improvements which wi
ll allow for the reduction in the uncertainties on the measurement\, the w
ork ongoing to increase the accuracy of the theoretical prediction and the
current status of data taking including some of the first preliminary ana
 lysis of the data.
