DESCRIPTION:Enabling machines to perceive the world using various modaliti
 es is one of the holy grails of artificial intelligence.  In this talk I\n
 will present some research on creating machines that do as such by\nlisten
 ing.  I will discuss some of the unique difficulties in this\nfield and pr
 esent a thread of research which spans a range of\ncomputational technique
 s relating to signal processing\, machine\nlearning and cryptography.  Thi
 s research will be introduced in the\ncontext of classic audio problems su
 ch as time/frequency analysis\,\nmusic transcription\, source separation\,
  recognition in mixtures and\nmore. I'll show how this work generalizes an
 d finds applications to\nother domains\, such as computer vision\, and wha
 t it takes to move it from the whiteboard to the real-world.
