DESCRIPTION:Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline (NURBS) surfaces can be non-unif
orm and defined for any degree\, but existing subdivision surfaces are eit
her uniform or of fixed degree. The resulting incompatibility forms a barr
ier to the adoption of subdivision for Computer-Aided Design. In this talk
I will discuss our work towards a superset of NURBS which can handle irre
gularities in the control mesh. We call this target NURBS-compatible subdi
vision\, as the resulting scheme would be able to represent any existing N
URBS patch exactly. I will outline our strategy\, discuss work which is al
ready complete\,\nand look at the challenges which lie ahead.
