DESCRIPTION: This presentation will explore the legal scope for using both
 \nthe Convention on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources\
 n(CCAMLR) and the Madrid Protocol to the Antarctic Treaty for the purpose\
 nof cetacean conservation in the Southern Ocean.  It will focus on the\nwo
 rding of these two treaties\, including their provisions on the\nrelations
 hip between each treaty and the International Convention for the Regulatio
 n of Whaling.  It will look at which provisions of the two treaties may be
  particularly relevant to cetacean conservation.  The presentation will al
 so summarise the results of a survey of practice under the two treaties\, 
 in order to illustrate how they are currently engaging with cetacean issue
 s in the Southern Ocean.\n
