DESCRIPTION:Diffraction studies have been successful in determining the po
sition of atoms in a unit cell\, or determining the periodicity of a struc
ture. However\, most common materials in our daily life are not ordered. S
till\, their structures at different levels have direct implication on mat
erial properties. Scattering provides robust signature of the internal spa
tial arrangement of any system. However\, contrary to the dilute particle
scattering or crystal structure analysis\, there is no way of ab initio tr
ansformation into real-space structure. We need one step of interpreting t
he signature according to the a priori knowledge of the system. I am going
to discuss several examples of X-ray and light scattering of cellulose-re
 lated systems.
