DESCRIPTION:We examine problems in managing a mix of power plants generati
 ng electricity\, using optimization modeling. The modeling includes defini
 tion of goals\, such as minimizing carbon footprints\, maximizing revenue\
 , or reducing risk of blackouts. We discuss how to exploit structural prop
 erties of nonsmooth objective functions.
