DESCRIPTION:We will begin with an introduction to the local Langlands corr
 espondence\n(LLC) \, for which the starting point is a non-archimedean loc
 al field F. One\nhas arithmetic data (Galois groups) on one side\, represe
 ntation theory on\nthe other. In general\, one expects depth to be preserv
 ed under the LLC\, as\nindeed it is for GLn. We will discuss the depth-pre
 servation issue for SL2.\nWe will move on to describe depth-change under W
 eil restriction E/F of\nscalars. Joint work with Anne-Marie Aubert (CNRS\,
  France). This will be\na non-technical talk.\n
