DESCRIPTION:We will be discussing: Olsen\, D.R. Jr. (2007). Evaluating use
r interface systems research. Symposium on User Interface Software and Tec
 hnology (UIST'07)\, pp. 251-258.\n\nAvailable online at:\n"http://icie.cs.
 byu.edu/ResearchGuidance/SystemsResearchCriteria.pdf":http://icie.cs.byu.e
 du/ResearchGuidance/SystemsResearchCriteria.pdf\n\nOriginal abstract: The
development of user interface systems has languished with the stability of
desktop computing. Future systems\, however\, that are off-the-desktop\,
nomadic or physical in nature will involve new devices and new software sy
stems for creating interactive applications. Simple usability testing is n
ot adequate for evaluating complex systems. The problems with evaluating s
ystems work are explored and a set of criteria for evaluating new UI syste
ms work is presented.\n\nRubric for the reading group: Everyone attending
is expected to read the paper in advance. Please bring a copy with you\, p
referably annotated with interesting reflections. The format of discussion
will be a brief invited introduction/critique by two members of the group
\, followed by general discussion and informal mixing.
