DESCRIPTION:The long-term goal of our research is to discover the basic pl
 an of subsystem organization in the mammalian nervous system. It is hoped 
 that the resulting model will provide a fresh approach for systems neurosc
 ience with a set of organizing principles acting as an hypothesis engine f
 or experimental exploration of underlying biological mechanism. Results ob
 tained so far with the rodent forebrain\, which is required for the expres
 sion of voluntary behavior\, will be discussed.
