DESCRIPTION:The talk will concern two different topics. First a quick new 
 proof will be given of a result of Fatkullin &amp\; Slastikov (2005)\, Liu
 \, Zhang &amp\; Zhang (2005) (see also Zhou et al (2005))\, to the effect 
 that stationary solutions to the Onsager equation with the Maier-Saupe int
 eraction are radially symmetric. Second\, a description will be given of j
 oint work with Lu Liu on exterior problems in the 2D one-constant Oseen-Fr
 ank theory.
