DESCRIPTION:This talk is devoted to the state of the art in fuzzy logic\, 
 its achievements and future prospects. We first review the basic concepts
  of fuzzy logic along with their motivation and history\, also discussing 
 what \ndistinguishes fuzzy logic from probabilistic uncertainty. Then we d
 iscuss in which application areas fuzzy logic has been applied successfull
 y. Finally\, we raise the questions whether\, despite all these successes\
 , fuzzy logic has been able to fulfill its promises and which future pote
 ntial it may have.
