DESCRIPTION:The black hole stability problem is a central problem in mathe
matical general relativity. In the context of the stability problem in hig
her dimensions\, I will present a theorem concerning decay of linear\, sca
lar perturbations on a family of five-dimensional stationary\, asymptotica
lly flat vacuum black holes\, called black rings. Such result strongly sug
gests that the stability properties of black holes in five dimensions rema
rkably differ from those observed in dimension four. In particular\, the t
heorem supports the expectation that black rings are dynamically unstable
to generic perturbations\, complementing previous works in this direction.
