DESCRIPTION:Aviation is held up as a shining example of a safety-conscious
industry - we are often reminded of how safe it is to travel by aircraft.
\nHowever\, as the industry moves towards heavier reliance on data links
to improve efficiency whilst reducing cost and emissions\, it is leaning o
n digital technologies which were not designed with security and privacy i
n mind. This talk will offer insights into the various security and privac
y challenges of next generation air traffic surveillance technologies\, sh
edding light on the practicability of different threats and main factors t
hat impact the success of realistic attacks. Finally\, we will describe th
 e OpenSky platform (https://opensky-network.org) which is a community-base
d receiver network collecting air traffic data. With over 4 trillion messa
ges collected from more than 1000 sensors around the world\, currently pro
cessing over 260K messages per second\, the OpenSky Network exhibits the l
argest air traffic dataset of its kind. It is available to the research co
mmunity for realistic and large-scale evaluation of various aspects of avi
 ation systems and networks.\n
