DESCRIPTION:When using optimisation models to aid the design of urban ener
gy supply systems\, it is common to have an objective of lifetime cost min
imisation (investment and operation). However\, in a process with many sta
keholders\, there are many\, often competing objectives. In this talk I wi
ll present an analysis of the impact of various objectives on a district e
nergy system in Bangalore\, India. The objectives encompass monetary cost\
, carbon emissions\, and risk of system failure. Clear trade-offs are requ
ired when considering different objectives\, but I will show that it is po
ssible to manage those within a model\, leading to technology portfolio re
commendations which balance cost\, carbon\, and risk simultaneously.
