DESCRIPTION:Spatial population and community patterns are bedevilled by is
sues of spatial (and temporal) scaling.&nbsp\; While it is sometimes conve
nient to consider local (alpha) and landscape (gamma) scales of abundance
or diversity separately\, we need to develop approaches that can consider
ranges of scales as a continuum.&nbsp\; This talk will focus on the scalin
g properties of population and community patterns\, and on tools to transl
ate information across scales. These may lead to new approaches to measuri
ng\, modelling and managing spatial ecological systems.
