DESCRIPTION:The seminars are open to all\, and research students at CEB an
d MedImmune are especially invited to attend. The talks will be about 30-4
5 minutes long\, and questions are encouraged which open up new avenues fo
r discussion. Tea and biscuits will be provided.\n\nWhen faced with the t
horny question “What do you do?” many of us will have flailed around f
or a definition of our university degree\, or regurgitated a pithy and wel
l-crafted statement about what our research project\, at an introductory l
evel\, involves. It is almost certain that such a statement will refer to
‘technology.’ But what is technology? The famous German philosopher\,
Martin Heidegger\, took on this question in his famous essay on “The Que
stion Concerning Technology.” His answer turns out to be much more usefu
l than you might expect\, and I’ll introduce some of his key findings.
