DESCRIPTION:\nArtificial Intelligence\, AI\, is disrupting the traditional
product development paradigms. An increasing proportion of software is t
rained rather than explicitly programmed. This approach is attractive bec
ause it can offer better results and shorter development times. The trend
is broader however\, affecting hardware and system design as well. For e
xample\, high-performance monolithic sensors are being replaced by multipl
e low-cost devices\, in conjunction with data fusion and pattern recogniti
on algorithms. In this talk Rupert will look at some of the technologies
involved\, and how the new approaches place increased emphasis on data col
lection and model validation.\n\nRupert Thomas is a consultant at TTP Plc\
, based in Melbourn\, where he specialises in data science and machine lea
rning. Since leaving academia\, he has developed data products in the med
ical\, defence and industrial sectors. His research interests include inc
lude deep learning\, machine vision\, and AI at the edge. Rupert gained a
MEng and PhD at Southampton University.\n\nTo make a booking go to https:
