DESCRIPTION:Object recognition requires one to address similarity between 
 shapes and this leads one to construct a "space of shapes". As Riemann not
 ed\, this is an infinite dimensional non-linear space. Depending on how di
 stances are measured\, it can have many different guises. The mathematical
  picture is unfolding slowly but I think understanding it is important for
  vision and medical imaging algorithms.
