DESCRIPTION:Directed theories of time maintain that time has an objective
'future' direction. In this talk\, I illustrate a sense in which such theo
ries are incompatible with special relativity. My conclusion follows almos
t immediately from a particular choice simultaneity relation for a uniform
ly accelerated observer. I prove that\, in a certain natural sense stemmin
g from the work of Malament (1977)\, this is the unique simultaneity relat
 ion available to such observers.
